America and the world witnessed the tragedy ofHurricane Katrina.
We were glued to our television sets, watching thousands of peopie lose their homes and
some their lives, ciying out with written signs, “ HELP US”.
.
At the same time, The Sounds ofNew Orleans were playing our weekly gig at Ralph
Brennan Jazz Kitchen. We were all saddened, blending our souls and the music, playing
New Orleans musicfor the people. I alsofirst hand witnessed my mother and brother
missingfor a week, not hearingfrom them or knowing their whereabouts. Emotions were
high thefirsi time weplayed the song Louisiana after thefirsi week ofrhe storm. When
Woody WoodfordJInished singing that song there was a silence that covered the room that
we had never experien ced before. Each and every person in that ro om felt an extrem e loss.
The lyrics ofihat song now became a reality.
As we move on to thepresent, we realize it is our mission toplay and represent the City of
New Orleans, continuing to bring you quality New Orleans music. We also want to
dedicate this CD to all ofthe storm victims in Mississippi andAlabama as well. Here to
all thosepeople who lost their lives, homes, and loved ones. This music is especially dedicated to you!
KEEP HOPE ALIVE NE W ORLEANS! We will keep the music and the party going on as a
Tribute to you!!
