Biography

Australian musician, producer, song writer. Ken Young employs a unique and expressive guitar style to produce powerful, enigmantic, often plaintive music. From instrumental to full lyrical tunes. Ken plays a multitude of instruments, turkish saz, darbuka, indian sitar, guitars; some instruments obscure, some common. Ken uses these instruments to vary his styles, but keep it all tied together with his delicate to powerful guitar work.

Drawing on world influences, Turkish, Indian, Celtic, Folk Guitar, Australian Aboriginal, a heavy dose of Slide Guitar, Blues and sprinkled with some Jazz, Ken Young's music is becoming well accepted as a form of fusion not just for the purists.

Ken strives to create music that is natural, textural and organic, while remaining dynamic and expressive. A nationally awarded producer (2001, Triple J National Radio Station & Noise Festival), Ken knows he can produce slick, streamlined studio tunes, but has taken his music in another direction. To keep it natural. In his music Ken employs a lot of improvisation, even on vocals, and this is the core of his artistic creation.

Within his music, Ken also invites other artists to add their own imrpovisational style. He searches for areas to record in that have natural effects (such as reverb) to avoid using processing or effects units as much as possible. Though the listener may never directly notice this, it all adds to the element of natural, textural music and keeps the spirit of art in tact.

After two years of DJing, regional performing in the North West of Western Australia, having his music featured in events like the 2003 National Noise Festival (Australia), and learning the art of recording, Ken has finally produced his debut album, "Ken Young - Letting Go".

"Ken Young - Letting Go" contains 14 tracks ranging from haunting turkish styled music accompanied by didgeridoo, to electric slide blues, and delitate celtic style guitar playing. All flowing, fusing, fitting so no track sounds out of place. Some of the tracks from "Ken Young - Letting Go" can be heard on this site.

Really, theres only one way to experience the unique music of Ken Young, and thats to take a listen.
