Editor's review

Intricate, densely composed music out of Oklahoma. Six multi-instrumentalists make room for each other on stage and in between sounds for all to make greater than the sum of their parts. Emotional, peaceful music that anyone can appreciate.

Biography

Kunek is a six-person ensemble from Stillwater, Oklahoma. Founded as an instrumental project, Kunek’s unique perspective on melodies and rhythms has shaped their songs, which work to redefine what pop music should sound like. Originally comprised of two members, the band expanded to three, four, and eventually six musicians, each blending into the songs seamlessly, adding exquisite texture and depth to songs that beg for the listener’s own emotions, whatever they may be. As the project expanded, so did the fan base. They soon outgrew their practice space, which wasn’t big enough to hold the growing number of people who wanted to hear them play live. After playing only a few dates at select clubs, their performances were already being praised by the Oklahoma music press as a “great musical experience for anyone who likes to feel emotion in the music that they listen to.” Their songs reflect the theory that music is a delicate intersection of science and emotion. Lead vocalist Jesse Tabish will delicately work your heartstrings with solemn, yet beautifully optimistic melodies as Kunek gracefully moves through the music harmoniously, radiating confident sincerity in knowing that this is the music they were meant to play. What brings these individuals together is the idea of collectively creating something bigger than themselves. Each member acts equally as a cog in this machine that creates emotion in the listener; be it happiness, sadness, hope, or tranquillity. Their music places as much importance on cello and drums as it does on piano or guitar. Listening to Kunek, you realize that the pieces fit, and the outcome is inspiring. Their music can be organic, dynamic, delicate, buoyant, or ethereal. Regardless of your interpretation, it will move you. An innovative band that all music lovers will be able to identify with, Kunek will inspire and amaze you with songs crafted through sincerity and heartfelt conviction. Enjoy the intimacy of your listening experience, as you will soon realize that it is only a matter of time before the rest of world has caught on to Kunek. A collective of extremely talented multi-instrumentalists, Kunek features Jesse Tabish on piano, guitar, and lead vocals; Jon Mooney on keyboard and guitar; Jenny Hsu on cello; Eric Kiner on lead guitar, lap steel, keyboard, and backup vocals; Josh Onstott on bass and backup vocals; and Colby Owens on drums.
