Editor's review

On this remastered LP, the gloriously shambling dexterity of Morgan's trumpet is captured as it begins to bear real fruit. Not yet 20 years old, the Morgan of "City Lights" is figuring out the organic power of his breathy riffs. And Paul Chambers' dapper bass is, as ever, the class of the session.

Biography

The fourth Blue Note album by 19-year-old trumpet phenom Lee Morgan in August 1957 was wisely stacked with tunes written and arranged by the brilliant Benny Golson. The charts and the playing by the entire sextet are superb. Incredibly, Morgan, Curtis Fuller, and George Coleman had the energy to cut an entire session with Jimmy Smith for his Sermon and House Party albums. The RVG Series consists of classic blue note albums newly remastered in 24-bit by the original engineer, legendary Rudy Van Gelder, with state-of-the-art equipment. Lee Morgan - trumpet, Curtis Fuller - trombone, George Coleman - sax, Ray Bryant - piano, Paul Chambers - bass, Art Taylor - drums
