Combining cool and free jazz and old-time folk is no short order in itself--try using that bastard blend to express classic American tunes by Cole Porter and his ilk. In truth, anyone clever enough to think of that could probably make it work, and that's certainly the case with the uber-mellow piano and barely tonal backwoods fiddlework of this New York foursome.
