The charged-up guitars of SoCal punk, the smarter-than-thou 'tude of Breeders-variety lady-rock, and the broken etymologies of the Spanglish language all get showings in Abandoned's catchy-cool tracks. Add obvious sympathy for '80s synths, and you've got yourself a proper L.A. band.
You just might not be aware, somehow, somewhere, unless your finger is on the pulse of LA nightlife. But if you are smart - and we know you are that won't stop you from learning about los abandoned. The result of this band?s imagination comes through on their debut album, Mix Tape, set for release on Vapor/ Sanctuary Records via download on July 11th, and on compact disc September 12th.
los abandoned is made up of 4 unique individuals - Lady P on vocals, Don Verde on guitar, Vira Lata on bass and Dulce on drums. Whether they wanted to be in a band together or not, fate kept pushing them together, crossing their paths, until the four of them realized they were meant to make music together. Remaining true to their distinctiveness, they have built their name and reputation as total originals, reflected not only in their music but their presentation as well. They are bilingual. They sing in Spanglish. They switch from one language to the other, not just within songs, but within sentences. Their fans range from indie rockers to third generation rockeros. Lady P is from Chile, Vira from Mexico City, Dulce a second generation Chicano and Verde a nice Jewish boy who speaks broken Spanish. It doesn't matter if the listener can speak Espanol, los abandoned's songs translate based on their catchiness and universal appeal.
From their self-released EPs demotape (2002) and self-titled EP (2004) to several key press reviews in the LA Times, LA Weekly and The Austin Chronicle to playing shows with the Breeders, Calexico, Julieta Venegas and Aterciopelados, los abandoned are poised to break out from their rabid fan base west of the Rockies, and take the rest of the United States by storm.
Guided by producer David Trumfio, los abandoned came to the studio to make Mix Tape with a secret knowledge few young bands get to have a taste of success. One of the biggest radio stations in Mexico had begun playing their last EP and sales had taken off. After touring Mexico, the band got a whole new perspective to bring in to the studio. Mix Tape showcases the feelings and development of a band on the rise.
The online release of Mix Tape marks the first time Sanctuary Records has put out an album online to be followed by a physical release. The digital will contain two bonus tracks not available on the album - "Electricidad" and "Blindness." Mix Tape can be found on July 11th on iTunes, Rhapsody, Napster, Walmart.com, Urge, Yahoo! Music Store, MusicMatch, AOL MusicNow, Sony Connect and MSN Music among other digital outlets.
