Louise Havell is a songwriter based in Brighton, England. She grew up in North London and maintains her roots there too. Her music is a fusion of Latinesque, folk and funk influences. By process of osmosis she has incorporated the likes of Stevie Wonder, Joni Mitchell, Linda Lewis, Jack Johnson and Latin American music generally, to create her own unique style. She plays with her band (drums, bass, acoustic guitar and backing vocals).
'Soaring sweetly while singing heartfelt lyrics, she can also dip down low when the sentiment requires. Her music is also very polished: folky jazz-funk with a bite...incredibly well produced and impressively delivered by her backing band...A name to watch.' The Latest 7, Brighton, UK.
'Her sultry blend of folk, funk and Latin produces a heady brew designed to intoxicate discerning listeners everywhere.' The Insight, Brighton, UK.
Louise and her band have only been playing together since the summer of 2004 but already have a healthy track-list of venues at which they've played: 'The Bull and Gate', Kentish Town, London, 'The Troubadour', West London, 'The Concorde II', Brighton, 'The Joogleberry Playhouse', Brighton, 'St Ives Festival', Cornwall, to name a few. She and her band are looking forward to a summer season full of festival fun and will be playing at Glastonbury this year.
Louise writes and arranges for her band. The featured tracks 'You Got Me' and 'Tired' are examples of what she creates when left with a laptop and some time. She is currently working on her debut EP. Full of horns, rhythmic and harmonic twists she is looking forward to releasing music she feels reflects her and her band's approach to music-making: Quality, fun, unusual and integral. This will be released on her own label, Creature Records.
Louise aims to release a full album by the end of the year and wishes to tour far and wide.
