Editor's review

Have a hit of Love Spirals Downwards, which otherwise goes by LSD. Ryan Lum and Suzanne Perry make music that will set your mind drifting, inspired by such beautiful dreamers as the Cocteau Twins and Mojave 3. The difference is that this duo drops drowsy beats over their acoustic guitars.

Biography

Love Spirals Downwards was begun in the late 80s by multi- instrumentalist, Ryan Lum, but didnt truly take form until the addition of girlfriend-turned-vocalist, Suzanne Perry, in 1991. Two of their three initial demo tracks were featured on the Across this Grey Land 3 comp, garnering international attention and sparking their career as one of Projekt Records most successful acts.

Over their 8 year history, Love Spirals Downwards released 4 albums; Idylls (1992), Ardor (1994), Ever (1996), and Flux (1998), 1 single, Sideways Forest (1996), and 1 retrospective collection, Temporal: A Collection of Music Past & Present (2000), incorporating the styles of ethereal rock, world music, ambient/ new age, and electronica to create a sound uniquely their own.

Primarily a recording project, LSD performed about a dozen times -- generally in conjunction with Projekt Festivals -- almost all of them acoustically. Love Spirals Downwards last live show was in 1998, in support of their final studio album, Flux.

Creative differences lead to Lum collaborating with Suzanne's sister, Kristen, on 1998's Flux, and in 1999, Lum found a new musical partner in singer/songwriter, Anji Bee. The revised duo shortened the band name to just Lovespirals, and have worked to maintain a separate identity from Love Spirals Downwards. Suzanne Perry formed a new band in 2002, called Melodyguild.
