When they talk about gravelly voices, they're talking about this. Recorded high in the Blue Ridge Mountains and perfumed with their spirit, Holcombe's new LP, "Gamblin' House," is packed with American growls on the subjects of heaven, hell, and heartbreak.
In January 2008, Echo Mountain Records will release Gamblin' House, by Malcolm Holcombe. The album is a fresh take on Holcombe's highly distinctive rustic music and lyricism. Gambiln' House was recorded at Echo Mountain Studios in Asheville, NC by legendary country producer Ray Kennedy. You will hear echoes of John Prine, Guy Clark, and the lesser-known kindred spirit Bill Morrissey, but the total package is all Malcolm Holcombe. It is a sound that combines his signature rough and scratchy vocals with harmonica-blessed folk, acoustic blues, stringband country, and small town bred soul.
