Mancino

So, what exactly does it mean to be a globally conscious world citizen, undeniably born to rock? It means that Mike Grimes (Vocals, Guitars, Bass), Nadim Issa (Keyboards, Bass, Vocals), and Jonathan Mason (Drum set, Various, Vocals) have taken it upon themselves to champion a polylingual, multi-tonal, and supra-rhythmic message to the world. Born in New Zealand to a Dutch mother and a Lebanese father, Issa met Massachusetts native Grimes at Brown University. It was in college that the two started making music together, often counting dark tales of the sea and pondering the definition of an accident. Upon graduating, Issa and Grimes moved to the City of New York. There, Issa met Mason, a French native and recent New York transplant. Discussions of jazz and physics invariably lead to a late night jam session in one of the many sleazy and minuscule midtown rehearsal studios. It was on that night, as if ripped from the pages of the most ancient of fairy tales, that fashioned magic and twisted aura were created from naught. And thus, Mancino was born. One part sonic beast, two parts insecure nerd, Mancino is the sound of thirty fingers, three brains, and six stomping feet. Interlocking grooves and broad compositions provide a foundation upon which angular melodies, Beatles- esque harmonies, and instrumental freak-outs are all stacked, shuffled, and spit out. This, the fire of their loins, is not unlike that of influences and luminaries such as Talking Heads. The Beach Boys, Velvet Underground, or Pavement. At the same time, the trio employs what is only natural to them: elements of classical, sixty's pop, psychedelic, and jazz, all of which are unified in their innovative take on rock music. Yes, Mancino is truly in a world of its own. But more importantly, it is accessible to all, providing a vivid backdrop for tales of sadness, joy, sharks haunting a man's subconscious and all-you-can-eat buffets gone awry. At live shows, Mancino attracts a sizeable and consistently growing fan base while headlining many of New York's most reputable rock venues -- The Knitting Factory, Pianos, Sin-Ž, Arlene's Grocery, Rothko, and CBGB's, to name a few. It is not uncommon to hear someone at a show put forth incredulously, "But how do only three people make so much noise?" "Dementia, my friendÉ" one could answer, "dementia." The Misters ceremoniously release their debut ep Dear International, on May 24 2005 and are now extensively touring in its support.
