By bringing the sensibility of Eno to bear on a mainstream film soundtrack vocabulary--rolling timpani, grandiose piano, warmly plucked strings--Finland's Paalanen manages to reshuffle a shopworn deck. If he can get a bit grandiose, his conventional instrumentation is also a means to some angular turns of phrase.
