Editor's review

The chill spirit of fusion pioneers Spyro Gyra runs deep through this Denver collective; add that to the fact they cover Dave Brubeck and you've got one cooler-than-thou combo. The feather-light sax tangos ripple with Metheny-style space guitar and velvety smooth electric bass.

Biography

Newly formed and "up and coming" in the Denver area with a unique blend of smooth jazz covers, fusion, and standards - MoDaZz is Greg Peticolas - saxophone, Dan Jones - guitar/synth, Jeff Watne - bass, and Steve Leavengood - drums. Also featuring Dale (Doc) Ramsey on bass, and Terry Ware on drums.

Live performances by MoDaZz include a powerful array of songs by artists such as Spyro Gyra, Richard Elliot, John Klemmer, Boney James, David Sanborn, Lee Ritenour, Eric Johnson, etc. MoDaZz has a way of re-arranging a song into a very loose format so as not to be limited by the song itself - but to give ample space for improvisation and fusion jams. The freedom to take musical detours into uncharted territory can make the music surprisingly unpredictable and extremely interesting as listeners try to anticipate what will happen next. MoDaZz lays down the funky smooth grooves that give people an irresistable urge to dance, while mixing in a touch of jazz/improv to keep it fresh. Fans have been known at times to forget what song is being played until the end of the song when the band returns to the melody. In some instances....maybe it's just a case of one to many beers!

Lately MoDaZz has been adding originals to the song set and is looking forward to recording their first CD in the not too distant future!
