Adept and energetic, Moonshine Sway went to the Steve Earle School of Alt-Country. At the same time, though, they give their music a flavor that's all their own.
Moonshine Sway was formed in Milwaukee, Wisconsin during the winter of 2002. Hell-bent, buzzed-up, and a bit
frayed from the road, Moonshine Sway’s vintage blend of rock-n-roll nestles the finer elements of old-time
country, punk, and alternative rock into a forceful package of dirty, bleeding guitars; thumping bass; explosive
drums; and ragged vocals worn thin from a trail of liquor and long nights. The balance of twang and gruffdriven
power ferments a blend of music too country for punk, yet too punk for country.
Drawing favorable stylistic comparisons to popular artists like Uncle Tupelo; Wilco; Buffalo Tom; and Bruce
Springsteen, Moonshine Sway has supported such genre mainstays as The Bottle Rockets (St. Louis, MO--Bloodshot,
Sanctuary); Richmond Fontaine (Portland, OR--El Cortez); and Drag the River (Ft. Collins, CO--Mars Motors).
Moonshine Sway has also been coupled with other nationally touring acts, including the likes of P.W. Long (Austin,
TX—Touch & Go); Teddy Morgan (Tucson, AZ—Sonic Rendezvous); Luther Wright & The Wrongs (Vancouver,
CN—Back Porch); Wayne 'The Train' Hancock (Austin, TX—Bloodshot); Nevada Backwards (Sacramento, CA--
Tortellini Records); and The Tossers (Chicago, IL—Thick Records) performing at such notable venues as Shank
Hall (Milwaukee, WI); The Globe (Milwaukee, WI); The BBC (Milwaukee, WI); The Note (Chicago, IL); Cubby Bear
(Chicago, IL); Frederick's Music Lounge (St. Louis, MO); The Lizard Lounge (Paris, France); and Cafe 87 (Olomouc,
Czech Republic), as well as national festivals like Summerfest (Milwaukee, WI) and The Harley-Davidson 100th
Anniversary.
