Editor's review

With a cornucopia of influences ranging from electronica to avant jazz to new wave, it's a mystery how Moped sounds like no other. With sax, bass, drums, keyboard and laptop it's also a wonder how they're only a duo. OK, Moped is one big mystery.

Biography

As one of the pioneers of SF's electro jazz scene, Moped's organic brand of dance music has kept bodies movin' since 2003. Multitasker Peter Gavin (sax, bass and synth) acts as the "voice" of the otherwise instrumental duo, while drummer Scott Eberhardt keeps the time with polyrhythmic grooves. Interspersed between avant-jazz and heady trip-hop originals, Moped lightens the mood with campy covers such as Hall and Oates' "Maneater." An added cinematic element comes into play during live shows with their use of projected abstract visuals. Catch this dynamic duo at a dance club, art gallery, concert hall or dive bar near you.
