This Queens rapper may be a member of the Polyrhythm Addicts, but you'd be unwise to ignore his lyrical side. On Complex's eclectic "Twisted Mister", the artist trades flows with a diverse set of hip-hop personalities ranging from Dave of De La Soul to the always-entertaining Biz Markie.
Queens, New York bred Mr. Complex has enjoyed an extremely productive career to this point. As a member of the Polyrhythm Addicts (with DJ Spinna, Apani B Fly MC, and Shabaam Sahdeeq,) Complex contributed to the underground smashes "Not Your Ordinary," "Take Me Home," and "Motion 2000." He released the official albums Hold This Down and The Complex Catalog as well as other unofficial compilations. He contributed to compilations Independent's Day, Wide Angles, Superrappin 2, Beyond Real Vol. 1, and Beyond Real Vol. 2. Also noteworthy were his verses on the seminal posse cuts "Lyrical Fluctuations (Jigmastas f/ Talib Kweli, Mos Def, Pharoahe Monch, Mr. Complex and Shabaam Sahdeeq)" and "Seven (Masterminds f/ El-P, J-Treds, J-Live, and Mr. Complex.)"
Mr. Complex readies to vault to a higher level with his new release, Twisted Mister. On Twisted Mister, Complex perfects his very unique style and is nicely complimented by five star production and rap music's finest emcees. Standout cuts are plentiful. On "Emotional," Complex trades verses with De La Soul's Dave (aka Trugoy the Dove, Plug Two) over a fine Dariffs' beat incorporating a vocal sample that ices the cake. "Scream, Shout" invokes classic Organized Konfusion material with an ethereal, bassline-driven Big Trap beat and a fine Pharoahe Monch verse. "Scrape Your Back Out" f/ L Fudge and "Glue" f/ Biz Markie are perverse, hilarious takes on love. Plex shows his talent for storytelling on "Extra, Extra," "Director's Cut," and the melodic "380 Lady." He even jokes with ill Will Ferrell on "Plex Goes Hollywood." Still, the album's true standout track might be "Calm Down," featuring Plex venting over a beautiful DJ Spinna/Joc Max track and getting a nice assist on the chorus from Vast Aire and Pearl.
