It's just a short jump across the North Sea from Sweden to Scotland, so forgive these country-poppers if their vibe skews towards twee. If anything, de facto whimsy feels all the more fitting coming from these earnest fellows, who can sing about the meaning of life while keeping straight faces (and straight time, too).
Biography
My Closest Friend is a band from Sweden, playing their own original music.
Their story began in 2002, as singer gustav and guitarist daniel were looking for a new platform for their mutual musical ideas. Ideas of a music without labels, based on improvisation, played from the heart. With pianist and sound artist niklas, bass player fredrik and drummer per what was to become my closest friend was formed. The repertoire grew out of improvisation and ensemble, and landed somewhere at the outskirts of pop, jazz and electronica. Having several active songwriters the band was in constant development.
In 2005 we see the result of times past and it gives us a clue as to what to come. With a new ep the music has changed shape. The songs have become more text based and have drawn closer to the alternative pop scene.
But the starting-point is the same. the members as well.
