Editor's review

By mixing together the music of many different cultures, Naga create a hypnotic, entrancing style all its own. Influences include Indonesian Gamelan, African drumming, and Australian didjeridu.

Biography

Naga was concieved in 1995 from the vision of Genine Coleman, Mateo Fabro and Paul Jautokas. These founding members came together to share the language of rhythm. Originally an African drum core band, Naga's sound has evolved to include gongs, wind instruments and guitar. Drawing inspiration from ancient musical traditions spanning the globe, Naga creates a bridge to the here and now. The ever changing pantheon of collaborators has grown to include such greats as jaw harp specialist Steev Rothman, T. Weldon Anderson on contrabass and Firedancer Sache. Surfacing at clubs, underground venues and festivals, Naga creates high energy performance environments through multi-sensory engaging performances with lots of dancing and the occasional mosh pit. In 2000 Naga found themselves inspired to record. They soon found themselves equally at home in the studio as they were on the stage. With the debut of their self-titled CD, listeners are afforded a rare experience of the soothing soundscapes of Naga. Naga is in the studio recording the new EP release, Metalurgy due for a 2005 release. www.ringingear.com www.thebankinc.com
