Editor's review

One voice, one woman--Brazilian folk artist Nancy Galvao blends a variety of music as vast as her country's geography. The mezzo soprano is a member of the Expressao Seresteira group of the Latin pop band Quanta Planta and a backing vocalist for reggae ensemble Walking Lions.

Biography

Nancy Galvão was born in São Paulo, Brazil. She has been in touch with music since childhood, both at home and at school, where she started singing at the age of 5 – already in love with music and since then decided to pursue this professional path. When she was 15, she started singing with varied bands and participating as a singer and actress in many amateur theatre groups. Songwriter and journalist, Nancy has studied singing with well-known brazilian teachers like Nancy Miranda, Suzana Salles and Magali Mussi, and radio presentation skills with radio announcers Roberto Hais and Flávio Machado. She’s currently a member of the Expressão Seresteira group (which presents serenades in São Paulo’s homes), of the Brazilian Popular Music band Quanta Planta, of the reggae band Walking Lions (for whom she acts as backing vocal, vocal coordinator and arranger) and of the Clube Caiubi de Artes (www.clubecaiubi.com.br, Arts Club where she performs weekly and where artists are only allowed to play unpublished songs). Ecletic, she takes part in tradicional rodas de Samba (Samba circles) and performs her wide repertoire of Brazilian Popular Music at her city’s night clubs. She also acts as a studio singer and announcer for jingles, spots and CDs recordings. Versatilility is one of her strenghts, which enables her to interpret different genres like Rock, Blues or sweet melodies. The perfect tone of her mezzo soprano timbre, the warmth of her powerful voice and her dynamic stage presence makes her a fist-rate vocalist that receives cheers and claps wherever she shows her work.
