The new epicenter of smart, undie hip-hop is nowhere proximate to the traditional Bay Area faultlines. Young Brooklyn label Nature Sounds has already released indie gems from Masta Killa, Immortal Technique, and others. Their rapturous new mix LP is highlighted by the Ghostface/DOOM collab.
Brooklyn based hip hop label Nature Sounds set to release spectacular compilation CD, "Natural Selection" featuring songs from Ghost/DOOM, Pete Rock, Masta Killa, Strong Arm Steady and more!
Nature Sounds is quickly becoming one of the most talked about labels in independent hip-hop. After less than 3 years under their belt, the label has earned critical acclaim from the most discriminating tastemakers in the business, while quietly selling over 350,000 units
worldwide. Nature Sounds was independantly established in Brooklyn in 2003 by long-time hip-hop journalist, producer & industry vet Devin Horwitz. At the time, there were very few hip-hop labels catering to the burgeoning underground movement while maintaining credibility amongst the purists in the streets. Nature Sounds saw its calling and quickly began to fill that void.
Since its inception, Nature Sounds has been responsible for debut records from some of the genre’s most talented & most overlooked MCs such as Masta Killa of the Wu-Tang Clan, R.A. the Rugged Man, Immortal Technique, Vordul Mega and more! 2006 will prove to be even bigger for the Brooklyn based label and this album, "Natural Selection" is a cross-section of the new line-up of hip hop classics they have in store. Highlights include tracks from the much talked about Ghostface/DOOM collaboration "Swift & Changeable", joints from Pete Rock's new album entitled "NY's Finest", plus a taste of "Made in Brooklyn", the follow-up to Masta Killa's smash debut "No Said Date". "Natural Selection" also includes 2 bangers from West Coast super-group Strong Arm Steady consisting of Xzibit, Phil the Agony,Krondon & Mitchy Slick whose album "Blast 4 Me" is due out this Spring. Nature Sounds seems to be the independant front runner for the title of the hottest hip hop label in the game, and this compilation will serve as a cornerstone to their ascension amongst the best.
