Editor's review

Current pop-punk savants Fall Out Boy give this California troupe the nod, and here's affirming their taste: Ash Hittesdorf's edgy vocals lead a mix of broiling electric guitar and fevered drums. The group's facility with a cool, pensive verse only highlights every heavy chorus.

Biography

TVT Records is proud to announce the signing of California power-pop-punkers New Years Day. The band has been making quite a noise and touching the hearts of many fans with their ultra-catchy, anthemic songs that just happen to be loaded with daggers for lyrics. Further separating them from the boy-dominated punk scene is the truly unique presence of 22-year old singer Ashley Hittesdorf (you just call her Ash) providing distinct and empowering vocals to a rock band that can really back it up. One may describe Ash as Tragic Kingdom-era Gwen cut with Chrissie Hynde circa-“Bad Boys Get Spanked.” She however describes herself on her personal MySpace page as “vindictive and Italian – DOUBLE TROUBLE,” defying the sweet look in her photos.

New Year’s Day formed in early 2005 and within mere months got noticed by Fall Out Boy’s Patrick Stump and Motion City Soundtrack's Justin Pierre who collaborated with them on the song “About A Boy.” They were then noticed by punk/emo bible Alternative Press, who salivated over the band’s “blend of girl-power vocals and dark pop-song structures,” and gave a heads-up to the record industry: “We'd advise A&R reps to start booking flights, like, now.” TVT Records wasted no time grabbing this foursome with some of the best crossover potential in recent memory.

New Year’s Day will release their first album and begin circling the earth on tour in early 2007. Get ready…
