Editor's review

UK duo Nitzer Ebb is to industrial techno as the Sex Pistols are to punk. The group's "Let Your Body Learn" and "Join The Chant" tracks are primitive battle cries of old-school ravers in the punk closet and old-school punks in the raver closet. A large influence on many of the major techno players (i.e. Richie Hawtin), Nitzer's fist-pumping, frenzy-spawning beats abound with grit--and are perfect for yelling over.

Biography

NITZER EBB

NEW COMPILATION ALBUM "BODY OF WORK"
AND COMPANION ALBUM "BODY REWORK: REMIXES"
OUT NOW IN NORTH AMERICA AS AN IMPORT

Nitzer Ebb, the legendary British band who rose to prominence in the late 1980's and early 1990's make two new releases available to North American fans as imports: 'Body of Work,' (Mute UK) a double-disc career-spanning compilation and Body Rework: Remixes,' (novamute UK) an accompanying collection of Nitzer Ebb remixes from contemporary artists inspired by the band's proto-techno industrial legacy, are both available in North America now as import CDs. 'Body Rework: Remixes' is also available as a vinyl import.

A world tour – the band's first in over a decade – commences this Fall and with the band playing North American dates in September (schedule below). The tour sees fellow novamute artists, Motor, joining the tour to support the band on multiple dates.

'Body of Work' highlights many of the bands' most celebrated tracks including "Join In The Chant," "Control, I'm Here," and "Let Your Body Learn." The second CD also includes reworks, rarities and classics, These include William Orbit mixes of 'Captivate' and 'Backlash,' the band's own remixes of 'Lakeside Drive,' 'Ascend,' and many others.

'Body Rework' sees classics such as 'Control (I’m Here), 'Join In The Chant', 'Murderous' and 'Let Your Body Learn' remixed by the likes of Black Strobe, Xpress 2, Dubfire, Derrick May, The Hacker, Phil Kieran, Thomas Heckmann, Robag Wruhme, Terence Fixmer and touring companions Motor into updated electronic versions of their industrial blueprint.

Formed in Chelmsford (Essex, UK) when main protagonists Douglas McCarthy (vocals) & Bon Harris (drums, programming) were just 15, Nitzer Ebb cut a dynamic swathe through the industrial music and Balaeric beat scenes of the 1980s and 90s. Militaristic, intimidating, yet always accessible, the band enjoyed a string of ferocious club hits and released five critically acclaimed albums on Mute, working with producers such as Phil Harding, Flood, & Alan Wilder (Depeche Mode).

Nitzer Ebb went on to sell over 400,000 records in the US alone, influencing such pioneering DJs & producers as Richie Hawtin, Darren Emerson, Sven Vaeth, DJ Hell, Tom Stephan, Danny Tenaglia, and rock-gods Smashing Pumpkins & Nine Inch Nails.

The band split in 1995 but recently reformed, and in May 2006 headlined the world-renowned Detroit Electronic Music Festival for its first live performance in more than 11 years. Support for the band was overwhelming – as longtime supporters and the new generation of Nitzer Ebb fans converged at DEMF for this momentous occasion. "The UK band that inspired dozens of growling young men in black to toss aside their guitars and replace them with synths and drum pads in the 1980s and ’90s gave a full-on live electronic body music performance" hailed Detroit Metro Times and Detroit News proclaimed "Nitzer Ebb is back on the scene."

Fans outside of Detroit will soon have their chance to see the band live as they embark on a world tour. This will see the band visit new territories including Japan, Australia, Brazil, and Peru, as well as old haunts in the UK and US.
