What if the pummeling drums and bittersweet chords of pop-punk got extended into something more lengthy and textural? You'd have found an unlikely back door to post-rock territory, and that's what we get from this Dutch group. Because ripping riffs don't have to mean bad lyrics are coming.
Let?s skip the history part and move on to the present? It?s Saturday in a venue somewhere in Holland. The crew is setting up the stage, bar isn?t open yet. In the corner are four guys. Just sitting. Laidback. Quietly observing. A bit shy. Then it?s 10 ?o clock. Showtime. And it erupts. Novastrike mixes heavy, growling, dragging chord structures with raw, up-tempo, in your face riffs. The two vocalists know how to weave their voices while the drums keep pumping, the bass keeps roaring and the guitars keep screaming. But Novastrike also knows how to find moments of quiet intimacy. These features combined define the Novastrike sound. The last few years Novastrike played venues all over Holland, including the Melkweg, Patronaat and the Kade. In August 2005 they went on their first European tour, playing shows in Poland, Latvia and Lithuania. During their south European tour in August 2006, Novastrike visited France, Spain and Portugal. February 2006 saw the release of their debut EP, Apparatus. The EP was recorded in the Fieldwork Studio in Belgium with Mike Butcher (well known for his work for, among others, Black Sabbath and Marvin Gaye) and mastered by Alan Ward (The Gathering, Urban Dance Squad, Lou Reed). Apparatus was released in a packed Patronaat in Haarlem, supporting Green Lizard, on February 10th 2006.
