Norwegian guitarist/composer/arranger Nypan might be Pat Metheny's long lost brother, or at least John Scofield's second cousin once removed. His contemporary jazz-rock collective melds Nypan's exploratory guitar lines with a frenetic rhythm section and several brazen winds. The group simmers with ecstasy, yet never loses its cool.
NypaN started out as a rocker on the local club scene in Trondheim just 16 years old. He had to lie about his age when he was to perform because of the 18-year age limit. After some time NypaN got into jazz and was growing more serious about music. He attended the Music Conservatory of Kristiansand where he studied for 5 years. During that period Nypan attended the Rhythmic Music Conservatory in Copenhagen for 6 months. Works now as a teacher in the local district. This fall he will move to Aix-en-Provence in the south of France with his wife and son.
NypaN has played with people like; Petter Wettre, Per Oddvar Johansen, Ingebrigt Haaker Flaten, (The Trio), Morten Skaget (TNT), Olav Dale, Egil Kapstad, Hilde Hefte, Ernst Wiggo Sandbakk, Bernt Moen.. also appeared on Molde Internasjonal Jazzfestival, Orleans Jazzfestival (FRA), Kongsberg Jazzfestival, Maijazz, Paaskejazzt, Mandal Jazzfestival ,Canalstreet.
