Biography

Joao Lopes was born in 1986, in Lisbon (Portugal). Strongly influenced by his brother's musical career he started producing his own tracks by the early age of ten. His first productions were mostly drum 'n' bass with a very strong IDM (Intelligent Dance Music) accent, but later he realized that trance was his true calling. By merging pure, melodic, dream and Balearic vibes together with touching melodies and thick rhythms, Jay defined his own style within the trance genre. In 1996, Jay started producing his tracks using a Korg N-364 workstation and a BOSS beat box. By 1998, he started using the computer as his production platform--combining Cakewalk and Re-Birth together with samplers and DSPs (Digital Signal Processors); it offered almost endless possibilities compared to his previous setup. However, it was only in 2001 that he experienced the full potential of a virtual studio with his migration to Nuendo and Reason; a combination that he still uses today. Since the early release of Sun Breath in 2004 on several online communities; and due to its big success among worldwide listeners, Oxid Project has become one of the most promising new acts in the online trance scene.
