Biography

P.I.C came to life in a 1992 NYU film school mockumentary about a rap crew with ridiculous and often demented opinions on music and race. To collect the footage necessary to meet the prestigious film schools project requirements, cast members Sulu, Rice and Un-G decided to endorse these absurd views - collectively known as "p.i." (Pilipino Insurrecto) - on stage at venerable New York City music venues.

Armed with a home stereo amplifier, turntables, a keyboard, some borrowed lo-fi microphones from an uncles karaoke machine, plus a do-it-yourself punk rock attitude with songs mostly about "luv for ya mama," the p.i. crew concocted a show that managed to convince audiences that the band was for real! With their mesmerizing, humorous, enthusiastic and spontaneously naked stage presence, the p.i. crew garnered a sizable and dedicated following.

Since then, the group now known as P.I.C has played everything from Hollywood after parties to major music festivals to hipster Lower East Side joints to Brooklyn warehouses. No crowd is safe from P.I.C!

P.I.Cs trademarked hiphopunkfunkmamboska sound - a robust blend of hip hop, hardcore punk, Latin rhythms, funk and ska - entertains, offends, charms, and confuses audiences in New York and around the world: their wildly successful debut album "hiphopunkfunkmamboska" (2000) was added to over 300 radio stations nationwide and reached #1 on CMJ charts from Canada to Hawaii. P.I.C's second album "Sexy Picnic" (2003) is a college radio favorite across the nation.

In 2002, P.I.C was house band for Comedy Centrals stand-up comic variety show " Premium Blend", sharing the stage with the incomparable Wanda Sykes (from Wanda at Large, Chris Rock Show, Pootie Tang). P.I.C played all their original tunes, including HIPHOPUNKFUNKMAMBOSKA, which was adapted as the theme song for "Premium Blend".

The P.I.C cast - Horny Jeff (saxophone), J-Bomb (mc), Rice (keyboards), Sulu (mc, trumpet), Un- G Wasmabati (mc, dj), Rick Fingers (bass) and Mark Concerto (guitar) - draws from a broad range of musical styles and prides itself on attracting audiences of very different musical tastes. On stage, on tv and on their recordings, P.I.C is original and energetic, chaotic and creative, and always aims to make you happy!
