Born in the sultry summer months of 2003 in Columbia, South Carolina, Petrillo Relents is the heart-child of songwriter Andrew Francis. Americana? Art-Blues? Country noir? At some point the finer flavors in life defy classification and simply trigger a taste and a longing for more. There is a dark southern mystique to the music, but the spirit and soul of the lyrics may well derive from Dostoevsky's St. Petersburg, Van Gogh?s Provence, or the swamp-beds of the southern Atlantic shoreline. The band has shared the stage with artists like Danielle Howle, The Avett Brothers, Kevn Kinney, Faun Fables, Crooked Fingers, Blue Dogs, and many others. The band was chosen 2004 'Best New Local Band' by the writers of Columbia's entertainment weekly, The Free Times. The live show gives you a feeling like finding a great lost treasure at the thrift store, or the simultaneous wonder and nostalgia you might feel while rummaging through your grandparents old love letters. Anyone who has seen the band perform live will attest to either an unexpected compulsion to take to the dance floor or a curious familiarity with music that they've never before heard. The 'such is' EP was recorded in the summer of 2004 at the Jam Room in Columbia and is currently available at shows or through the website www.petrillorelents.net.
