Phil Kennedy & Crossfire

Phil Kennedy

Phil grew up in rural New Brunswick, Canada and like many Maritime families his could usually be found singing and playing music in the kitchen on Saturday nights. Phil started playing guitar when he was 10 and drums when he was 12 years old. As time went on he became interested in playing other musical instruments as well like piano and bass guitar. Throughout his school years he played in several bands and then started playing the clubs and bars circuit. Phil did well in school but his passion was for creating music. He wrote his first song at 16 for a girlfriend and hasn’t stopped. 

Phil attended university but decided it wasn’t for him and then moved on to college. His music career took off in the late 90’s after joining a country band from New Brunswick called “CROSSFIRE”. Phil wrote 13 of the 14 songs on their debut album entitled “Bullistik” (pronounced ballistic...), which became a huge success on the East Coast music scene. Seven of the 14 cuts on the album were released to radio with four becoming hits throughout the east coast and Canada. However a poor judgement call on the album cover design became an obstacle for the band when it came to distribution. Since the cover doesn’t consist of a band photo fans outside the east coast were unsure of who “CROSSFIRE” was. Because of the popularity of the songs, album sales still soared and Crossfire became the band to hire. 

After some consideration Phil decided to leave Crossfire and he jumped into the studio and production end of things. Phil is now sole owner of THE RECORD FARM Sound Studio located in Brown’s Flat, New Brunswick and has produced several albums in the rock, country, bluegrass and folk genres two of which (”Black’s Mountain- Barin’ The Soles”, and “Shanklin Road- Don’t Forget About The Rain”) received nominations for album of the year at the East Coast Music Awards and one other album (”Black’s Mountain- Home”) received Bluegrass Album of The Year at the East Coast Bluegrass Association Awards. Phil’s reputation as a sought after performer, arranger and producer follows him and he’s not slowing down. Phil is soon to release his first solo album “This Song”, that is self written and self produced. Phil is performing all of the instrumentation on the album too!
