Biography

"First you're born, then you die. In between you can either watch 'Lucy' reruns or kick some butt playing great music. You choose. We did. We are headed to the top . . . 'the toppermost of the poppermost!'" Thus sayeth music director, Alex Oliver.

"The new Poppermost album Absolutely Sonic is absolutely brilliant!" -- DJ Dee, RadioGetsWild.com, London UK

"Excellent new music. Kool website." -- Roy Sandbrook, StreamingRadio.co.uk

"I like what I hear." -- Alex Malloy, KoobaRadio.co.uk

"A fun collection of garage-style rock that's reminiscent of Oasis and the poppier moments of bands like Jet and the Hives. Songs like the energetic 'Catch Me If I Fall' and the Southern-flavored 'Bang Bang' are catchy, infectious good times." -- Absolutely Sonic album review, Las Vegas Weekly

Chosen by the staff of Las Vegas Weekly's 2003 Music Issue, as one of "Our picks for the best bands," Poppermost is an alternative pop/rock trio band based in Las Vegas, NV. The very name of the group propels their continued drive "to the toppermost of the poppermost," just as it did when the Beatles coined the term for their own early inspiration. To Poppermost, music equals life and it means having the excitement of a rock 'n' roll party, the exhilaration of a spiritual revival, and the energy of a dance party; in the end everything always comes back to rock 'n' roll.

"Poppermost pops on through pleasant, pure, and psychedelic musical licks. Poppermost not only offers up happy upbeat songs but lays down some serious tracks. This new band and its new album are worth lighting the incense, clearing the mind, and letting the music take you on a magic carpet ride." -- Las Vegas Weekly

Poppermost is the creation of music director Alex Oliver (ASCAP), a singer/songwriter, acoustic and electric guitarist (both lead and rhythm), and pianist originally from Los Angeles, CA. There he spent the 90's as a solo performer and as a veteran of several pop/rock bands such as Junetown, Clover Club, and After Hours.

Roy Al Rendahl (ASCAP) plays electric bass guitar, is the audio, video, and graphic art director (the band's logo and web page designer). The 70's & 80's saw him in bands such as The Barb Timm Band, Changes, and Sweetwater in his hometown of Winona, MN playing a wide range of genres including R&B, country-rock, and pop/rock. The 90's took him to Fresno, CA doing audio and video recording.

Phil Kaz provides drums, percussion, and vocals. Originally from Chicago, IL, playing with Skullduggery and Constant Rush, he's been in Vegas since 1980 involved in several projects including The Hooligans, a local rock band, and a UNLV percussion ensemble, as well as the California Hotel's house band.

Our influences include: Beatles, Stones, R.E.M., Buffalo Springfield, Grateful Dead, Neil Young, Elton John, Elvis Costello, Bruce Springsteen, The Who, Santana, U2, Aimee Mann, Maria McKee, Paul Simon, Fleetwood Mac, and Led Zeppelin.

And some people say that we sound like: Beatles, R.E.M., Led Zeppelin, Lenny Kravitz, Wilco, and Elvis Costello.
