Editor's review

While busy as founder of Merge Records and leader of seminal indie band Superchunk, the prolific Mac McCaughan still finds time for Portastatic. Free to indulge in his many musical whims--including a collaboration with Yo La Tengo and a soundtrack for the film "Looking for Leonard"--Portastatic is one curious and talented man's quest to expand his personal musical boundaries.

Biography

Every Portastatic recording, no matter how far afield or different from the one that preceded it, whether it?s backed by a distant and crackly drum loop or delicate brushwork, propelled by feedback or nylon strings, is rooted--shot through to the marrow with McCaughan's crystalline and reverent sense of song, and anchored by his plaintive voice.
