Editor's review

In Davis' work, jazz stylings like walking bass and vintage piano meet not only sharper hip-hop and soul rhythms, but also postmodern glitching. It's a deftly executed blend that appeals from both sides: We end up with chill-out soundscapes that are warm but also suavely aloof.

Biography

Rae Davis, a 24yr old mexican native of Texas who grew up on the streets of San Antonio, found much refuge in basketball, movies and music. Growing up to the sound of oldies, soul, tejano, and lots, and lots, and lots of Rap. Rae started his career as a musician in high school, learning piano and guitar, and soon after started dabbling in music production. His musical resume is vast, citing everything from indie rock bands to film scores to jazz bands to, of course, hip hop projects. Rae recently begin working on his album that is due out this spring. Positive Thinking a record that is heavily influenced by jazz, r&b and soul, yet stills draws on the driving beat of hip hop. His other influences range from Allen Iverson to Nas, to Terrence Malick and J Dilla. While he is currently enjoying writing his own music; Rae's dreams are to score films and be able to dunk a basketball
