Ragga Ragga Ragga: It's the compilation so nice they named it thrice. This year's version certainly earns the extra emphasis. Elephant Man track "Cater for the Poor" is a terrific cross of dancehall power and MC presence; one wishes more club music felt so relevant.
Since its inception over a decade ago, the Ragga Ragga Ragga series has become a cornerstone of the dancehall community. Expertly curated by the folks at venerable English reggae label, Greensleeves Records, each installment amasses an impressive collection of raw street anthems, fire- breathing club bangers, and some of the finest music the community has to offer. Greensleeves’ latest installment, Ragga Ragga Ragga 2008, is no exception. Due out on May 5th, the record is loaded with big tunes and a host of hits-in-the-making from Kingston dancehall stars such as Mavado, Busy Signal, Mykal Rose, and a host of others. From Mavado’s soaring “On The Rock” to Charlie Black’s frenetic “Buddy Buddy,” the album is a characteristically strong survey of the most vivacious, exciting music of Jamaica. Hear for yourself on Elephant Man’s grinding “Cater For The Poor.”
