Editor's review

Latin blends are famously among the hottest urban music styles today, but that's hardly a new development. Before there was reggaeton there was Tito Puente, and this innovative project sees classic Latin tracks--bursting with horns and jumping with piano--given modern live DJ treatments.

Biography

Legendary Latin music label FANIA Records has teamed up with DJ Rumor for FANIA LIVE.01 From the Meat Market (street date: June 5, 2007), a live DJ mix recorded in NYC's meatpacking district that combines classic hits with old school breaks.

Through a partnership with the crate-diggers' bible Wax Poetics, FANIA will promote FANIA LIVE.01 through live DJ events and concerts in eight markets, including Miami, Los Angeles, Tokyo, Rome and New York.

"We are thrilled to bring back the Latin sounds of New York from the '60s and '70s in a new, downtown context," said Michael Rucker, Director of Marketing at FANIA. "These are timeless hits and the continued interest in our music is a testament to the ongoing legacy of great artists from the FANIA label."

FANIA LIVE.01 contains 20 classic tracks from Latin music legends like Ray Barretto, Joe Bataan, Joe Cuba, Tito Puente and Eddie Palmieri artists who reinvented traditional Latin music and set the stage for salsa, boogaloo, Latin R&B, and afro-Cuban jazz.

A New York native and longtime b-boy dancer, DJ Rumor is known for mixing old-school funk and soul with eclectic new-school sounds.

"As a DJ, nothing is more gratifying than inspiring people to move," said DJ Rumor. "In that regard, the Live.01 album was a very rewarding experience. Witnessing crowds going crazy and b-boy dancers demonstrating their amazing skills to this classic music was amazing."
