Rayna's deep vocal range, paired with fluid, stirring melodies, makes her one of Toronto's unique singer songwriters. With influences ranging from Coldplay to Nine Inch Nails, her acoustic sound is strong, passionate and moving, yet distinctly feminine.
She goes under her real name, which was taken from an original Star Trek episode. Odd, but this suits her quirky personality. After years of playing the Toronto scene as a background vocalist, Rayna stepped into the forefront and took the evolutionary step of creating her own songs. Fueled by life experience, her powerful, introspective lyrics speak of pride, love, change and loss and keep her audiences enthralled and connected. These audiences continue to grow at local venues such as The Cameron House, Holy Joe's and The Richmond Lounge (formerly B-Side).
Her music has recently earned her a nomination for "Best Female Acoustic" at the 2005 Toronto Independant Music Awards. She also maintains a high public profile as a music journalist and recently appeared on MuchMoreMusic's "Listed."
Rayna has begun production of her forthcoming EP "Empty Room," which will extrapolate the instrumentation and arrangements already implicit in her music. "Empty Room" is scheduled for release in May, 2006.
