Editor's review

There's a divide as big as a semi in modern country, between the flag-wavin' twang of Nashville New and the shameless Gram Parsons revival of Austin Alt. If e'er the twain shall meet, it might be thanks to Whitlock, whose tunes cross the Tennessee love ditty with the Texas road epic.

Biography

Ray Whitlock is from Eastern Kentucky.  Now living in Portland, TN he is a working class guy who has forged a true-to-it’s-roots country/pop sound, combining elements of the 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s music that picks up where the early nineties gave way to the grunge.  While his vocals are on the cutting edge of new country his sound appeals to a diverse audience. From 1995 to 1998, Ray toured the U.S., Caribbean, and Canada with the country group CRY WOLF where he served as keyboardist and background vocalist.  This gave him the opportunity to experience many exciting venues and develop true professionalism. Over the past five years, ONE EYED GYPSY, which Ray fronted, has shared the stage with some of rock’s greatest names.

He has fronted shows for MOLLY HATCHET, BAD COMPANY, .38 SPECIAL, DR. HOOK, KENTUCKY HEADHUNTERS, BLACK OAK ARKANSAS, DAVID ALLEN COE, LFO, WILLA FORD, and an explosive sold out show with THE SOUTHERN ROCK ALL STARS. He also opened for Wind-up recording artist AMERICAN PEARL.  Ray Whitlock is ready and primed to bring a great high energy show straight to you. 2005 will see the release of Ray’s first solo CD. The CD which is entitled “NEW BEGINNING” is just that. Ten fresh new country/pop songs are ready to hit the radio stations of America.

The CD contains songs exploring all of Ray's four octave range. From the southern sound of “What’s Been Missing , and “On A Mission, to the beautiful soaring ballads “Read Between The Words” and “So Far” to the country groove sounds of “Intoxicated. After receiving rave reviews on the internet the CD is just about ready to be released to the public. Ray loves his fans and feels like this album is for them. These ten songs are for the fans who have waited for the CD release and new music from Ray.

The first show with the new material is August 6th at the world famous Donoho Dinner Theater
