They come from a northern land, Canada, and they have what it takes to be the next talent on Motown. "Like It Like You Do!"'s mixture of soul, pop, and rock will remind you of what good blue-eyed soul used to sound like.
Introducing REAL
REAL is the brainchild of Kirby Sewell, the singer-songwriter and lead vocalist who for the past 5 years has been working with the best musicians, creating together what he likes to call “REAL music.”
REAL in 2003 played to over 15,000 people, including traveling to shows in Vancouver like New Music West, Saskatchewan’s Flatland Music Festival, being invited to play at Western Canada Music Week, and performing 2 shows on the Coke Stage at the Calgary Stampede. Building a fan base with their live infectious shows and thought provoking lyrics, REAL identifies with their audience.
A lot of people are asking themselves important questions today, when they watch the News on their TV screens, escape into the latest blockbuster Movie scenes, or when they see the Headlines on their favorite magazines. Some of what we see we wish was not there, and that leads us to relate to music that talks about those questions and provides thoughtful responses to these modern events.
Not unlike today’s news headlines, some songs of the past that we can still relate to are Marvin Gayes, “What’s Going On” and Edwin Starr’s “War.” Those two 70’s MoTown songs definitely struck a chord with their listeners right in the middle of the heat of national debate over the Vietnam War, and remain timeless creative musical statements that call out for change to this very day.
REAL believes in the power of love to overcome the hate in our world. Songs that challenge the heart, then the mind, then ultimately the soul is what we feel needs to be heard. Like many of the MoTown artists of the past we hold up that banner while resurrecting the old school grooves and musical principles that made their songs last generations.
REAL music like the “real music” of the past sends out positive vibes of comfort and change, singing modern love tales and shedding light in song with socially conscious lyrics fueled by the events of our day. Creating a well-balanced view of our world, REAL’s songs are Positive Pop for “thinking people,” that aspire to inspire new concepts and new audiences.
