Sometimes the best things are simple, and this Austin-based trio proves just that with its brand of moody indie pop. The songs the group crafts remain endearing and pensive but without pretense. Passionate yet subdued, you can picture vocalist Kat leaning into the microphone, closing her eyes, and spilling her voice into the air--and the air smells sweet.
Red Hot Heart has been several years in the making...and well worth the wait. Brothers, Miguel and Turo stumbled upon Kat in Austin, Texas in 2001 and formed the Coocs, with Miguel on bass, Turo on guitar and an ex-member on drums. During 2001 The Coocs played all around Austin (Saxon Pub, Red Eyed Fly, Room 710, Beerland, Flamingo Cantina, Momo's, The Vibe, etc.), and recorded 4 Eps. In 2002 we went our seperate ways to stretch our musical legs for awhile. Kat sang for a band called Patterns Form in the meantime, and Miguel and Turo formed a punk rock band called Section 8. Both bands were successful and played shows in Austin and made recordings. Turo, Miguel, and Kat never lost touch and kept up with eachother's musical careers, knowing one day their careers would probably collide again. Fast forward to September, 2004: Not completely satisfied with their current musical endeavors, Turo and Kat contacted one another for a jam session...then Miguel came on board to play the drums. And we became Red Hot Heart. After recording a 4 song Ep with JacketWeather Productions (thanks Dave!), in December of '04 (with Turo playing guitar and bass) we began our search for a bassist. Luckily, Kat had a talented bassist to call on from her last band, Patterns Form, and Eric came on board. We have since felt the need for a second guitarist to fill out our sound, and have been lucky enough to stumble upon the talent of Donovan. Our music has been likened to The Cure meets The Cardigans, to even as heavy as Helmet and as light as the Sundays and Rilo Kiley. The vocals are as smooth as Sarah Maglachlan but tough as Pat Benetar....give us a listen, you'll see...you like it.
