Editor's review

If a musician's promise to be "healing" leaves you skeptical, see how you feel after one of Pena's song cycles. Like George Winston before him, the Raleigh, NC-based New Age pianist reframes classical motifs in evocative original compositions. Pena's extensive pedalwork further deepens his richly layered tracks.

Biography

Richard Pena, who composes his own music and is a studio musician, began his informal study of the piano while a student at the Kansas City Art Institute and School of Design. Richard's formal training is in the fields of photography and printmaking. He has adapted much of the same creative process he uses in the visual arts to his approach to the piano, layering the delicate and bold tones of the piano, as a photographer captures light to create mood or a printmaker uses the subtle mixture of inks to create tonality and space.

Richard's spontaneous piano compositions are original, based on an intuitive and instinctive development process. All Things In Reverse is Richard's debut work of piano sonatas. It consists of eight tracks of original instrumental music by the solo artist. The album expresses musical vistas of inverse spatial and time order and disorder. The music has been described as invoking feelings of sublime serenity expressed through the dynamic range that is uniquely the piano. Richard now resides in Raleigh, North Carolina.
