Ever-quaking pop star Shakira came back recently with a collab with Beyonce, but like caviar or beer, she's an acquired taste. Her vocals are incredibly stylistic--half the time she sounds like Jewel or Sarah McLachlan if they had throat problems, and the other half she sounds like a Celtic princess (like on radio hit "Hips Don't Lie" with Wyclef Jean). It's the stuff not meant for the dance floor that lets Shakira shine, like on the emotional power ballad, "Don't Bother."
Biography
Grammy award-winning Spanish Rock singer Shakira was born in Barranquilla, Colombia on February 9, 1977. Born to Lebanese immigrants, Shakira began her musical career after graduating from high school and moved to capture fans throughout Latin America. Singing in Spanish and Portuguese, Shakira is often called the "Latin Alanis Morissette" due to her hard sounds. She won the 2001 Best Latin pop Grammy for her "MTV Unplugged" album. In the past, she was linked with actor 'Osvaldo Rios' , but presently dates Antonio de la Rua, son of the President of Argentina.
