Becoming a good DJ is largely about being a music historian, and that was certainly the case for Seattlites DJ Sureshot and Mr. Supreme, each the possessor of a mondo LP collection. All that history is brought to bear on tracks that join bop, funk, and kitsch-rock into tight hip-hop. Artists from ODB to Maceo Parker have hired the 'shooters beats.
Sharpshooters were born way back in 1993 on the streets of Seattle, Washington when DJ Sureshot and Mr. Supreme met simply through their reputations of having insane record collections. Two producers with a vast knowledge of funk, soul, breaks & beats, jazz, hip-hop and reggae soon joined forces to create a unique sound all their own. While many others have tried and failed, Sharpshooters manage to blend the grittiest hip-hop production with buttery smooth live instrumentation and make it sound easy. This timeless "True School" sound has influences ranging from easy listening & children's records to Studio 1 & underground disco classics and back again.
Sharpshooters songs have been featured on over 30 releases globally on the Sony, OM, Hed Kandi, Ubiquity-Luv N' Haight, Instinct-Shadow and 8 Ball labels alongside artists such as: The Roots, Blackalicious, The Brand New Heavies, A Tribe Called Quest and DJ Shadow. Choice Sharpshooters cuts have also been used on MTV and HBO TV. As veteran DJ's, Sureshot & Supreme are in constant demand and have flexed their skills on gigs with J-Rocc, Maceo Parker & Fred Wesley, Aim, DJ Spinna, Rae & Christian, Smith & Mighty, Ice T, Kool Keith, Peanut Butter Wolf, The X-Men, Greyboy, DJ Honda and Ol' Dirty Bastard etc...as well as a ten date tour with Ben Harper.
