When we last heard from Ambrosia Parsley's act, they were re-imagining classic children's literature. Here they range between sultry plastic soul and Dusty Springfield-esque Southern lullaby. How does it all fit? The band seems to be soundtracking some lush and fleeting dreamscape.
We proudly announce, after five long years, the return of our favorite twisted torch singer, Ambrosia Parsley, and her band, Shivaree. Together with Duke McVinnie, Danny McGough, producer Victor Van Vugt (PJ Harvey, Nick Cave, Beth Orton) and a wry coalition of mostly willing others, Parsley has fashioned a record as beautiful as it is troubling, a constantly surprising collection of stories told in a voice like no other. There's an old-fashioned heart beating inside these songs, but an altogether newfangled twist in the telling.
