Finding a young boogie-woogie star in Lugano, Switzerland, seems about as likely as coming across a traditional Celtic quintet in Phoenix. But somehow the music of mid-twentieth century American juke joints made its way to Silvan Zingg, and we should be glad. Swinging along with jaunty bass-and-drums backing, Zingg nails every dizzying piano run with virtuosic skill and obvious glee.
During his early schooltime, influenced by records of black Boogie Woogie masters Silvan Zingg began to play by himself the piano. When he was seventeen he officially appeared in the programm of the Blues Festival in Lugano as the youngest musician that have ever performed at this event.
Entertaining the enthusiastic public, he seemed to be able to easely convince his listeners about his feeling for this music and about his sensational interpretation of the Blues. Similary, he showed his ability to play Boogie Woogie and his personal touch with the piano. His favourite styles are mostly classic Boogie Woogie, Blues and Jazz with variations from all kind of different musical waves. Silvan is today one of the most requested piano entertainer in his country at appears and performs at many important events and festivals.
Also the organisation of the famous Charleston Blues Festival in South Carolina (USA) was so impressed, that they invited the young pianist to the "Masters of Boogie Woogie & Blues Piano Night" in the King Street Palace in Charleston. At the presentation Silvan was introduced to the public as the "young boogie woogie prodigy from Lugano, Switzerland". Silvan Zingg remembers: "...this was definitly one of the most exciting experiences of my life: the whole King Street Palace audience was making an uproon. While I was playing, my thoughts flew sixty years into the past, when this music in this country was played played by blacks in little taverns "Juke Joints", for an audience of farmers and railway workers. Now, it was me, who had this sensational experience to play as the only European, taking part at the festival. I felt I was the one in the spotlight and I was being carried by waves of applause coming from an enthusiastic audience. I consider it a great luck have been part of this unique atmosphere..."
