Bird Song is the new label imprint created by Velvet Crush and Action Musik founder Ric Menck. Here’s what Menck has to say about Snow & Voices…

I believe Lauri would best be described as a slightly left of center female singer/songwriter. Her singing style is subtle and intimate, yet still manages to convey waves of soulfulness and sensuality. As lyricist she respects the imagery of artists like Jeff Tweedy, Bonnie Prince Billy, Elliott Smith, Joni Mitchell, and The Beatles. The music of Snow & Voices mixes electric and acoustic instruments, and on this release favors piano and old analog synthesizers over the guitar (although there certainly are guitars on the record). The songs combine classic pop melodies with a slightly darker sonic underbelly. To my ears snow & voices fits nicely alongside the likes of Mia Doi Todd, Keren Ann, Coralie Clement, Mazzy Star, Bebel Gilberto, Beck's softer albums, and even the likes of (gasp) Travis, Coldplay and Dido. The Snow & Voices album was primarily produced by Darrell Thorp, best known as Nigel Goodrich's primary engineer. He has worked on records by Beck, Air, Travis, and most recently, Paul McCartney. Several tracks on the album were co-produced by Jebin Bruni, keyboardist for Aimee Mann, Fiona Apple, Liz Phair, Sheryl Crow, and many others. Infamous pedal steel/guitar genius Greg Leisz also produced one track.
