Editor's review

From modest beginnings in a high-school music class to relative stardom thanks to the 1999 hit single "Little Black Backpack," Stroke 9 has had quite a ride. Packed with radio-ready pop hooks, the band is still kicking out modern rock that's meant to please.

Biography

Marin County is a sunny, green, and mellow collection of towns just north of San Francisco, across the Golden Gate Bridge. It is this area where refugee hippies migrated following the hazy, drug-filled days of Haight-Ashbury. Eventually, those hippies became yuppies and had babies and created high schools. One of these schools was Marin Academy, where a visionary bohemian instituted a "Rock Band" class in the curriculum. The roots of Stroke 9 grew from this "Rock Band" class.

Stroke 9 grew from its modest Bay Area roots into a national sensation on the strength of touring and the radio smash "Little Black Backpack" from their Universal Records release Nasty Little Thoughts. A nod to Stroke 9's DYI beginnings, the band's new album, All In, was written and produced entirely by the band, using Pro-Tools, and will be released by Rock Ridge Music.
