Editor's review

On single "Where's Jason K?" the Finnish trio seem to syncopate the soundtrack to an original Super Mario Bros. "warp zone"--pretty much what we'd expect from the latest DFA wunderkinds. Debut LP "I Got My Eye On You" digs deep into abstract programming yet also drops tasty, spasmodic rhythms.

Biography

DFA Records is proud to unveil the debut album from the trio SYCLOPS featuring Sven Kortehisto on keyboards & electronics, Hanna Sarkari on bass, keyboards & electronics and Jukka Kantonen on drums, percussion & drum programming. This album was produced by Maurice Fulton

Little is known about the trio. We did discover in short conversations that Sven, Hanna and Jukka aren’t all Finnish but we can’t reveal whose who and have been unable to gather any kind of a credible biography for the players despite repeated attempts. Sadly they just simply refuse to reveal anything about themselves. We can tell you they do like to perform live but only for themselves and not for audiences. We know too that they simply flat out refuse to do interviews. Do they see this as rebellious? No. Do they want to be mysterious? No. Do they think this helps the music? Yes. The act of making music is enough for them. They want the listener to experience and enjoy it unencumbered by other things like biographical information, stories and the like. They simply refuse to allow us to reveal anything at all. We tried but they just told us again and again to go away and stop being snoops. In fact we tried their patience so much they put the phone down on us and stopped talking to us!

We do know the trio could be heard on Maurice Fulton’s 2006 remix of Hot Chip's "Over and Over". The trio also played on Kathy Diamond album "Miss Diamond To You".

So what are we left with? Their first full length for DFA - "I Got My Eye On You" is an engaging record that reveals the full shamanic like magic of the trio – a mixture of dark intensity and subtle crafted musicianship. It follows and expands on their brilliant January 2008 DFA single "Where’s Jason’s K." We like it’s brooding undercurrent and are delighted with the musical dexterity of the trio. You the listener will now have to imagine what kind of people they are and where they find their inspirations – playing Heavy metal riffs over Acid House? Playing folkloric instruments with old school analog synthesizers in a Finnish laboratory? We don’t know and we can’t find out.

To reiterate SYCLOPS will not be available for interviews.
