There is an authentic Celtic ring to the songs of these Canadian sisters. Pennywhistle and Bodran accents some quiet folk-guitar melodies that show make this new singer/songwriter team are steeped in tradition, while ever presenting new material. Their rockier songs recall the sister-lead supergroup Heart.
Fae and Melody together create a rich and seamless vocal blend that is rivaled only by rare sibling harmonies. Melody and Fae come to their collaboration and their repertoir as though they were born to it. Accompanying themselves with guitar, mandolin, penny whistles, and traditional percussion, the women of Syren bring a delightful and challenging range of song from Old Scots jigs and reels, to mystical Irish love songs, to passionate ballads of their own composition. Hearing the Syren song is an enchanting experience and a musical must for fans of traditional Celtic music! The ladies of Syren enjoyed a successful release of their CD "WAVES TO THE SKY" in late in 1999. This exciting recording well demonstrates the vocal range, skill, and Celtic passion of these two lovely singers. This entertaining disc contains songs from both the Irish and Scottish female vocal traditions as well as jewels from the original compositions of Syren members and musical friends. With the turning of the wheel, the dawning of 2000 brought forth a new sound to the ladies of Syren. They found themselves back into the studio recording an entire album of original content. While their celtic roots can be heard, "Invitation" is very listenable and dabbles on the foothills of contempory folk. It has been highly reviewed and is at the moment sold out. A new pressing is soon to be released
