Editor's review

Remniscent of James Zabiela, Josh Wink, or, really, most of the jackin' microhouse coming out of the Midwest, Tattoo Dectectives momentarily deserve your attention--and a name change. The bleeps might not add up to much on small speakers, but they would sound jaw-dropping on a large soundsystem.

Biography

Philadelphia's Playloop Records is pleased to introduce you to one of the most exciting new talents in the global dance music scene – Tattoo Detectives. While having only released records for less than two years, Tattoo Detectives are already drawing praise from some of the most regarded DJs in the world. With a number of key singles and a debut artist album set for release in 2007, it will be the year of Tattooed techno.

Gabriel Ben and Tacopimp formed Tattoo Detectives in 2005, and in short order, have served up some of the most massive floor pounding productions. “ETC,” the duo’s dynamic floor stomper was picked up by Carl Cox’s legendary techno imprint, Intec Records, for his “Carl Cox At Space Ibiza 2006” compilation. Cox claimed the track was the sound that represented his famous Tuesday parties in Ibiza. Follow up single, “Il Salto Fuori,” found its way onto Carl Cox’s Top 10 playlist for November 2006 and the legendary artist recently told Residentadvisor.com “This record is storming” and “Its pumping techno in its fury.”

The Tattoo Detectives are currently featured on the playlists, tracklists and charts of A-list talents including Belgium’s Tomaz & Marco Bailey, Slovenia’s Valentino Kanzyani, Norway’s Cave, England’s Trevor Rockcliffe, and Italy’s Mark Antonio, among many others. In addition to their own productions, Tattoo Detectives recently finished up remix work for legendary New York City imprint Twisted Records. “Rising Storm,” originally produced by Twisted’s Adam Freemer, gets a make over by the Tattoo Detectives in a floor-filing remix. When all said and done, Tattoo Detectives unique blend of funky, techno, house, and electronic elements all come together to create a sound of their own.

With the full support of Playloop Records, Tattoo Detectives have set quite a release slate for 2007. The year will see the release of several brand new singles and a debut artist album, among other exciting endeavors. As the support from DJ/producer legends like Carl Cox and other A-list talent grows, expect to hear a lot more from this exciting new act.

ABOUT PLAYLOOP RECORDS

“Playloop” began as a party promotion company in the early 90s when Justin Paul and Steve Waller booked King Britt, DJ Dozia and other big name DJs to play in Huntington, West Virginia near the Marshall University campus. Because West Virginia is a region of the U.S. known for coal mining and football, Playloop provided the only vehicle for entertaining and educating the crowds with some house music 101. “We were entertaining and educating students and locals to music they couldn't hear on MTV or VH1 and they loved it! We had lines of people around the block in this college town in West Virginia which is 100s of miles away from a major city," Paul says. After a successful run as a promotion company, Playloop became an official record label in June 2006.

Playloop’s Justin Paul is much more than an artist and CEO of Playloop. He is an acclaimed director and producer whose overseen music videos for eclectic artists The Nova Dream Sequence and King Britt Presents Sylk130. The music video Justin Paul directed for King Britt and Sylk130 aired on MTV Tokyo, Much Music Canada and Austrian TV; while his video for The Nova Dream Sequence was used to demo the Motorola iTunes phone at the 2005 Winter Music Conference. Justin Paul also directed the short film Night At The Apollo for the 48 Film Festival which was featured as part of the 2005 Philadelphia Film Festival. Recently Justin Paul & Jake Young directed and created the animated music video for Justin Paul’s track “Data Entry”.
