This is traditional Tibetan folk music, sung by a performer who has lived his life in exile from his country due to Chinese occupation. Many of Techung's songs are accompanied by flutes and his dra-nyen, a type of six-string lute.
Techung is a Tibetan singer, songwriter, and performer who lives in the San Francisco Bay Area. He grew up in the exile Tibetan community of Dharamsala, India, after the occupation of Tibet by the Chinese communist government in 1949.
Techung has recorded four albums and four CD's of traditional music with Chaksam-pa, the Tibetan Dance and Opera Company, that he co-founded in the United States, in 1990.
His voice and music were featured on the soundtracks of the IMAX film"Everest"; in music by George Harrison and numerous other documentary films. He has performed for His Holiness the Dalai Lama on many occasions in India and in the West.
Through his music Techung is committed to inspire his fellow contrymen and women to connect to their root music, and to pass on to the younger generation. He wants to reach out to the peace loving citizens around the world to gain support to his people's nonviolent struggle for a free Tibet. Techung is available for live solo or group concerts.
