Just as the golden pop-rock of the Thrills sounds so Californian you'd swear they grew up in La Jolla instead of Dublin, L.A. quartet the Adored apes Britrock so well you'll be convinced they're straight outta Leeds. Not so, but with surging electric guitars, sneering lyrics, and help from the Buzzcocks' Pete Shelley, the point is moot.
The Adored were born when four best friends and bon vivants joined up to make spiky party music combining elements of early punk and postpunk with elements of new wave, power pop and '90s Britpop. Ryan (vocals) and Nat (drums) met in the mid-90s in NorCal and both played with a locally legendary punk band before moving southward. They met East Coast transplants and aspiring popsters Max (bass) and Drew (guitar) in Los Angeles in 2002 and immediately started writing and playing together.
Following a 4-song demo in 2003, the Adored recorded a 5-song EP for V2 Records in fall 2004, with producer Dave Trumfio and a special guest vocalist: friend and mutual fan Pete Shelley [Buzzcocks]. The Adored EP was released January 2005, and the LP is due out on V2 later this year.
