Editor's review

Did the Fairport Convention go punk? England’s Blackfoot Brothers actually include one sister and they fuse old time bluegrass with skiffle energy and wry punk attitude. Dueling banjos, spry fiddles, and a razor-sharp wit ensure no one’s leaving the pub anytime soon.

Biography

Based in Plymouth UK, The Blackfoot Brothers are a lively and entertaining four piece band with a fast and crazy delivery. These experienced musicians have developed a fast-picking, foot-stomping, table-slapping sound that delights people wherever they go. The Band have an extensive repertoire of original material with many influences such as American folk, Bluegrass, Irish folk, Yiddish and Eastern European music, right the way through to modern pop. In addition to their popular original material they are also well known for doing some rather 'off the wall' covers that surprise and delight their audiences, such as 'Gangsters' by The Specials, 'The Devil Went Down To Georgia' by The Charlie Daniels Band and 'Should I Stay or Should I Go' by The Clash. It is this variety of material that makes them so appealing to audiences of all ages and their acoustic instrumentation enables them to perform at a comfortable volume in any venue, from lounge bar to concert hall. Although the band is in constant demand around the south-west of England they often perform much further afield; during 2003 they played at the Edinburgh Festival, The Ashton Court Festival and have also toured in twice in Scandinavia. Last year they released two tracks on an American compilation CD entitled Saturday Night Hay Fever, which is selling well, and they have recently developed interest from another U.S. label. This is a band worth seeing as seeing is believing but watch out for 'The Ace Of Spades'! The Band comprises; David Haydn - Banjo, Guitar and Lead Vocal Martin (Bones) Jones - Mandolin, Guitar, Vocal Nicki Powell - Fiddles Phil Whiffen - Tea Chest Bass If you would like to learn more about the band you can visit their website at www.blackfootbrothers.com where you can download tracks, read all the latest news and reviews and listen to their streaming radio station.
