Biography

The Brambu Drezi Trio was assembled to perform work from Jake Berry's long poem Brambu Drezi as set to full musical accompaniment. It features Jake Berry's vocals and guitar, Ishmael Daath on bass, and percussion and loops by Gabriel Bontemps. The sound of the trio has been compared to The Last Poets, Miles Davis (circa Bitches Brew), Sonny Sharrock, and Linton Kwesi Johnson. "Poetry no longer has the luxury of sitting in books on shelves and waiting for readers," Berry said. "It has to return to its roots in sound and song. It should not only engage your mind and spirit, but your senses as well."
